Trouble hand: Marginal Unsuited Hands

Problem:
You were not winning as much as you should be with Marginal Unsuited Hands (unsuited AJ-A9,KJ,KT,QJ), when we compared your win rate with the win rates of other APT users.

Description:
These hands are marginal, however, you can generally enter for a raise with them, when you are first in from late position (or occasionally middle position, with AJ and AT).

Cost:
$5.00 per hour in a $2/$5 No-Limit game

Recommendation:
Play 50 hands only being dealt Marginal Unsuited Hands. Note that you should almost never be calling a pre-flop raise with these hands.

Calling Pre-Flop Raises

Problem:
You are calling too many pre-flop raises.

Description:
You are calling pre-flop raises too often, allowing your opponent to keep control of the hand going to the flop. In many situations, folding or re-raising would be more appropriate.

Cost:
$4.00 per hour in a $2/$5 No-Limit game

Recommendation:
Play 50 hands and practice being dealt raising hands from the button. When another player raises before you, try to fold or re-raise more often. You can ask your advisor for help.

Going to the Showdown Too Often

Problem:
You seem to be going to the showdown more often than would be recommended.

Description:
In comparing how often you go to the showdown with our most winning players, you seem to be showing down your hand more often. This statistic is highly variable, but it could indicate that you are going too far with hands that are not strong enough to win.

Cost:
$2.50 per hour in a $2/$5 No-Limit game

Recommendation:
Play 50 hands and practice being dealt AJo. This is the kind of hand that could make top pair on the flop, but against several streets of betting should be played with caution.

Trouble hand: Non-Premium A-x Suited

Problem:
You were not winning as much as you should be with Non-Premium A-x Suited (A9s-A2s), when we compared your win rate with the win rates of other APT users.

Description:
Although still speculative hands, these can make the nut flush and top two-pair. The smallest ones can also make a well-disguised wheel (A-2-3-4-5 straight).

Cost:
$2.00 per hour in a $2/$5 No-Limit game

Recommendation:
Play 50 hands only being dealt Non-Premium A-x Suited. When you make a pair of Aces on the flop, play prudently - you might be out-kicked. If instead you pair your other card (9-2), you'll have 5 outs against many other one-pair and even two-pair hands, because of your overcard Ace.

Trouble Position: Middle Position

Problem:
You were not winning as much as you should be from Middle Position (UTG+2,UTG+3,Hijack), when we compared your win rate with the win rates of other APT users.

Description:
Compared to Early Position, you can play a wider range of hands from middle position. With superior hands, you should be raising and isolating early position limpers.

Cost:
$1.00 per hour in a $2/$5 No-Limit game

Recommendation:
Play 100 hands from the UTG+2 position. With drawing hands, the players before you will determine your action. If there are already limpers, you might limp as well. Otherwise, you should be more likely to open-raise or fold.
