Hi there,

I love your site! Only joined for 6 months to see what it's about but I can see this thing is deep.

I'd like to know a few things about getting the MOST benefit out of this site:

First off, if I play the games vs the computer, how do I get better at that? Where does the "teaching" aspect come into play? I've asked for the Advice tab and all the pros say FOLD almost 90% of the time. Can't fold all the time like that either.

Second, I'd LOVE to play against Qui Ngyen and the FT he was at. Is there a way to do that in the same way he practiced vs his opponents? Can I sit down at a virtual FT and play against the opponents he had?

Third, I am looking to improve my game overall. Where do I start? I mainly play tourneys, only about 3 yrs now and I just started playing cash and I am losing.

Lastly... If I decide to do the lifetime pass, can I apply the $99 I just spent for 6 months to the final price?

Thank you in advance.

Hi Danny, welcome to APT (and sorry for the delay in responding),
The main teaching on the site comes from the training plans and the Beat the Pro challenges and other features like that. Playing against the computers is good practice, and frankly repetition and pattern recognition is the best way to get better at poker. If you follow the training plans and do the recommended training, you will get better.

That's actually a really cool idea to play against Qui and the FT - we had thought about that before, but the problem is using the other players. We know Qui, so that's not a problem, and is why we have a bot with him in our game (and you can play him heads up in the heads up version of the game). It's a lot more questionable whether we could put up a bot and call it Kenny Hallaert (or any of the others). You can do parodies with no problem - at one point we had a game against all the U.S. presidential candidates about 5-6 years ago. But actually making a bot that plays like someone and using their name is a bit more difficult to say it is a parody. Speaking of which, if you are ever playing the game and you think one of the bots looks like someone famous unrelated to poker, don't be surprised if that isn't an accident. When we were having the bots drawn (there are hundreds of them), I had some fun with it :)

For improving your game, follow the training plans and do the Beat the Pro challenges. From there, make sure you work on your odds and evaluation skills using some of the other games we have (upper hand, what's the nuts).

If you decide to upgrade to lifetime, you'll notice we do apply a bit of a discount to current members. We don't typically do additional discounts on the lifetime membership because the lifetime membership is such a long-term commitment for us that we mostly offer it as a courtesy as opposed to something that is great for us in a business sense.
