I dont understand the levels of play listed (Dark Castle, etc.) and their relationship to registering for a particular game at a particular time. I seem to have a lot of questions regarding the technical points of mastering the ATP site. Am I alone in this regard? Or just a slow individual?

I don't completely understand your question, but I think you are asking what the names of the live cash games mean. The answer to that is "nothing". There are different buyins, so in theory the higher buyins would be better games, but since it is free money that probably doesn't apply as much. We just set the tables up to have a variety of games, but who plays what is a little up to them.
If I register for a tournament do I get to pick Dark Castle, etc. to strengthen the level of my opponents? Otherwise why are those games even on the page?
No, that's a cash game. It's there if people want to play it. These were the cash tables some members requested at one point so we set them up. But very few people ever play it.
