Beginner's Questions

I've just taken a 6 month subscription and am playing around with the training. Advice given seems pretty good for the cash games. I've tried it with the MTTs too and the advice seems less robust, although that could just be me not understanding what I should be really doing myself. Are you happy with the MTT advice or is that more in development. An example hand is below to illustrate.

Hand 1 Online Turbo Low Stakes Medium Skill
Blinds 10/20 I have 64s in utg 2 and only 562 chips from a starting stack of 1000.
Advice is to call. I only have 28bb and have relatively early position.
This advice feels too loose given my stack size and position and this type of advice seems to crop up alot.

Finally, a very general question - In the MTTs, do the players have set characteristics or are they random? Eg player 4 TAG, player 5 maniac. Should I be trying to observe how each player plays or would I be wasting my time?

Overall, the training looks very promising and I am considering taking out a liftetime membership.

Hi, thanks for the question and welcome to APT. I use the advice mostly as a suggestion of how some people might play a hand. I don't take it as a 'definite best play'. I just look when I really am not sure and want to get some suggestions. But in general I just play my way and then review the reports to see what hands got flagged, etc.

One other thing - i also don't put much reliance on the poker IQ score in individual sessions. There is a lot of variance there and it is mostly for fun. I find my weekly training plans are the best for diagnosing bad habits I'm picking up or weaknesses. I figure if a computer can notice patterns in my game, a good opponent probably can also.

Thanks for the reply. Can you let me know your thoughts on whether players in Mtts have characteristics. I've pasted below the original question.

Definitely observe them. It is somewhat random within the tournaments, although you can set them to be slightly more aggressive or passive. I think that observing the opponents and trying to learn their tendencies before they learn yours is one of the skills you can learn quickly through this software.
