Upswing Poker Ranges
i been working through Doug Polk's, Poker Lab and been studying the detailed basic pre-flop ranges from various positions and against other positions.
i know @1warlock and @highfive are advocates of Mr. Polks strategies and wonder if you are using those ranges and your success with them
RFI, RFI versus 3bet and facing RFI
they seem make a lot of sense but RFI on button or SB raise in mostly any 2 cards?
its a heck of a lot try memorize ... like about 75 charts on who and and from what
guess i am asking if its worth do that?

I like the theory behind his ranges but my own ranges are not nearly that wide. Their ranges need to expand so that they can include the proper ratio of bluffs to value. I am sure this is the right way to go against top-level pros, playing balanced games but I think these ranges are too wide for playing most other levels. As with everything else, you need to look at your own game and the people you are facing. Almost all of us (if not all of us) are playing against pools of mostly exploitable players. The need for perfect balance doesn't exist at these levels.
Therefore, I'd look at his charts but I wouldn't take them as gospel. Work on narrower ranges that you are comfortable with and slowly add as you need to. If anything, I'd look at the reasons for those ranges and try to make sure I have at least a good amount of bluffs in my game. Most players are not bluffing enough or bluffing hands that don't make sense. I'd rather have a less than balanced range but with enough logical bluffs to keep me ahead of my competition. Maybe in the future I'll need to incorporate full balance but none of us need to do that now.
ok ty ... appreciate advice... yes seems he leaves too many hands (category 4 ) that be likely bluffs with tiny EV... i not looked at his ones for cash games or live poker... and seems balancing in my experience has little effect in MTT you are constantly moved from tables and late registers joining... so little experience of anyones play
I think you have that right. I think playing a narrower range well is better than playing a perfectly balanced range poorly.
